On January 13th, the maintenance began at City Hall. On December 9th, the parties signed the contract for maintenance of the building. The work will be led by Monumentenbureau and is scheduled to finish both buildings within 5 months. Monumentenbureau is also the architect of this project and Van Kessel Havenbouw NV will perform maintenance work.

During the renovation, the Civil Registry will continue to function normally, but the marriages will temporarily take place between January 20th to February 10th, in Fort Zoutman. Once the work has been completed, the couples will get married again in a completely new wedding hall. The contractor will make sure to first complete the work at the Eloy Arends building where the wedding hall is located, and then proceed with the building Ex-Hotel Columbia. Throughout the process the employees of the Civil Registry will continue to operate normally with all the inconvenience that this may entail. Therefore, we ask the public to take into consideration all the changes and if it is possible to use the auxiliary offices (Hulpbestuurskantoor) whenever possible. Although these offices do not fall directly under Censo one can get the Afl. 5,- extract there. The public is asked in the case of Afl. 5,- extracts to use only the auxiliary offices. The contractor will do his best to end all work on time. Stichting Monumemtenfonds would like to thank all the employees of Censo in advance for your cooperation during this period.

Unfortunately, the condition of the building deteriorated sharply in recent years, this has caused a lot of inconvenience to both the employees and the public who uses these buildings daily. Stichting Monumentenfonds Aruba is investing in a major maintenance, given the importance of these buildings for both the Civil Registry and for the residents and tourists who get married here daily.

This property where the town hall is located consists of two buildings: the first, the Colombia Hotel dates from 1918 and the second, the Eloy Arends building was built in 1925. In 1986, the heir to Eloy Arends sold the buildings to the government. In 1997 it was completely restored. As of 1999, these buildings are managed by Stichting Monumentenfonds Aruba.

Onderhoud Stadhuis
